As I’m not terribly well off, the first phone I ever had that was capable of MMS text messaging was the iPhone which I got for free from freebiejeebies. It was news to me that you are able to send standard text messages to emergency services, I was kind of shocked and confused until I realised there is valid use for it.
Now PowerPhone has recently got a patent approved for sending MMS messages to 911. Again my first reaction is why would you need to send a photo to the police in an emergency but it has it’s uses yet again. This ability could potentially save lives when communicating with paramedics while waiting for an ambulance to arrive, giving call centres a lot more information to work with.
With all technology comes it’s missuses and given that people already prank call the emergency services using their phones, I can only imagine the stupidity that awaits when they can use MMS.
